New Release of Web4ClassroomTM 2.5 Features Curriculum ExchangeTM

Beverly, Mass. – March 5, 2001 – River Logic, Inc., (RLI), a market leader for enterprise optimization technologies and decision support applications, and EBSCO Publishing, a leading producer of subscription periodical databases announced today the release of Web4Classroom 2.5 (W4C).  This milestone release features Curriculum ExchangeTM, a complete education solution for managing content in an online classroom environment. River Logic’s Curriculum Exchange enables content providers, from teachers to major publishers, to extract and make available  relevant, up-to-date information to the online classroom. Curriculum ExchangeTM offers teachers new opportunities to create, share, and search curriculum with their professional colleagues within a school, district, state, or globally. Furthermore, Curriculum ExchangeTM allows publishers of high-value content, such as EBSCO Publishing, to rapidly create web-based learning applications for use in the W4C learning environment.

Underlying Curriculum Exchange™ is River Logic’s proprietary royalty tracking system that allows publishers to recover royalties when their content is used by W4C learning applications in a variety of revenue models. Other enhancements include a brand new look and feel designed to make the W4C learning environment for K-12 easier to use than ever.

Web4Classroom simplifies the process of obtaining and using world class content in classroom lesson plans, and provides state-of-the-art tools designed to track student progress easily and efficiently. W4C integrates award-winning standards-based learning applications and comprehensive reference databases with a  simple yet powerful class management system.  Learning applications currently available in W4C include Reading Room (featuring the Curriculum Reference Series), Online Reader (featuring content from hundreds of leading publishers), EBSCO Learn Science Series (featuring content from Scientific American) and EBSCO Learn Social Studies Series (featuring content from US News & World Report, A&E Biography and Cobblestone.) These learning applications comprise lexiled content, customizable assessments, and teacher’s guides. W4C tools help teachers individualize instruction, customize lesson plans, assign learning activities, and measure student progress in a secure environment.

Standard Web4Classroom tools include Calendar, Curriculum Manager, Attendance, Messaging, Grade Book, and Reports accessible by students, teachers and parents from anywhere there is an Internet connection.

“The Curriculum Exchange component of Web4Classroom offers exciting new possibilities for making use of Internet content classrooms. It is a win-win situation for teachers and publishers. Teachers can now share their very best teaching ideas with each other and their ideas are always linked to the very best content. Publishers who are looking for new ways to use their valuable content are motivated to develop new learning activities and make them available in a compelling market place,” said Adam Berg, director of product management at River Logic, Inc.
